Choosing the Right UHF Label

When choosing your UHF label, four criteria are particularly important:
  • Substrate - metal, plastic, cardboard, glass, fabric, or liquid containers; the antenna design and inlay structure are determined by these factors.
  • Chip / IC - e.g., NXP UCODE 9 / 9xm (tamper detection), Impinj M730 / M780 (longer read range), Alien Higgs 9, or EM Microelectronic EM4425 (combined UHF and HF). Each chip offers its own EPC and user memory capacities, as well as security features.
  • Printing and encoding methods - compatible with popular RFID printers such as the Zebra ZD621R, TSC T6000e, and TSC TH240T for direct thermal or thermal transfer printing, plus on-the-fly EPC encoding.
  • Finishing - format, adhesive (standard, high-temperature, removable), roll vs. sheet stock, pre-printed or blank.
