Industrial 8-Channel UHF RFID – One Reader for the Entire Read Zone.
The Chainway UR8 is an industrial-grade fixed UHF RFID reader that consolidates eight antenna positions onto a single hardware platform. That makes it the obvious pick whenever a read zone calls for multiple antennas – at gates, conveyors, scan tunnels, or shelf installations – and you want to keep the number of readers in the cabinet to a minimum. Where you would otherwise deploy two four-port devices, a single UR8 does the job: fewer IP addresses on the network, fewer power supplies, less commissioning effort.
The reader engine is built around the Impinj E-Series chipset. Standard output power is 30 dBm (1 W), adjustable from +5 to +30 dBm in 1 dB steps; an optional 2 W (33 dBm) configuration covers use cases with longer antenna cables or larger read zones. Receive sensitivity is rated at < –78 dBm, and the device handles 550+ tag reads per second. That covers the workload of typical industrial RFID setups: bulk reads at portals, fast inventory sweeps in archives, and continuous capture along conveyor lines.
The housing is die-cast aluminium, measures 102.8 × 102.8 × 34.2 mm, and weighs 450 g without antennas. On the host side you get 10/100 Base-T Ethernet (RJ45) and RS-232 at 115,200 bps – enough to wire the device straight into your network, PLC, or middleware without an additional gateway. The reader speaks EPC global UHF Class 1 Gen 2 / ISO 18000-6C, ensuring compatibility with all standard UHF RFID tags and transponders.
The following part numbers are available in the IDCRAFT online shop – each variant is designed for a specific use case:
- U8-U5E – Chainway UR8 fixed UHF RFID reader in the EMEA configuration covering the European 865–868 MHz frequency band, equipped with 8 SMA antenna ports, RJ45 and RS-232 connectivity, plus built-in antenna detection, RSSI reporting, and ambient temperature monitoring. The right pick for European deployments that require a UHF | RAIN – RFID reader with high antenna density and ETSI-compliant frequency coverage.
The aluminium enclosure operates from –25 °C to +65 °C and tolerates relative humidity from 5 % to 95 % non-condensing. Cooling is fully passive – no fan, no clogged intake, no moving parts to fail in dusty warehouse and production environments. Applications
- Gate and portal installations in warehousing and logistics – eight antennas cover entry and exit lanes seamlessly
- Scan tunnels and conveyor lines – run multiple read zones from a single reader
- Libraries, archives, and document management – wide-area capture across high-density tag shelves
- Production lines, laundries, and tool cribs – rugged hardware built for continuous industrial operation
The Chainway UR8 is the right choice when each read zone needs multiple antennas and you want to keep the total reader count low. Instead of sourcing, configuring, and maintaining several four-port devices, a single UR8 covers eight antenna positions – cutting hardware spend, commissioning effort, cabling, and firmware management in one go.
The reader integrates into existing RFID architectures via LLRP-capable middleware or directly over the Ethernet interface. RSSI reporting, antenna detection, and ambient temperature monitoring deliver the diagnostic data you need to keep production setups stable. On the antenna side you stay flexible: the UR8 supports common 6 dBic and 9 dBic circular antenna designs.
When you order the Chainway UR8 from IDCRAFT, you get more than a piece of hardware. As a Value Added Distributor for UHF | RAIN – RFID, we ship across Europe, supply matching antenna cables and tags from a single source, and support you in dimensioning your read zones, frequency planning, and tag selection.
