Press-fit form factor for extreme loads – RFID that gets pressed into the part

When a UHF RFID tag cannot be glued on but has to be mechanically pressed into the host part, the Xerafy XS Wedge X4202-EU100-H9 comes into play. This variant of the Xerafy XS series was engineered specifically for press-fit mounting into prepared bores – without adhesive, without potting compound, held in place purely by mechanical interference fit in the workpiece. That makes the tag the right pick for high-pressure and high-temperature applications in oil and gas, automotive manufacturing, industrial injection moulds and anywhere glued tags are not a structural option while extreme loads are part of daily operation.

Inside, the Alien Higgs 9 IC delivers 48-bit TID, 96-bit EPC and 688-bit user memory. That memory capacity allows tool lifecycle data, maintenance intervals, mould numbers or wellbore identifiers to be stored directly on the host part – an essential advantage for applications where a part must remain clearly identifiable for years. In the EU 865–868 MHz band, the tag reaches up to 1 m read range on metal when installed, which is sufficient for the typical read distances at tool, wellbore and mould identification points.

The decisive performance values, however, do not lie in read range but in mechanical and thermal ruggedness: a compression strength of 70 MPa and a survival temperature range of −50 °C to +220 °C put the XS Wedge clearly at the top of the entire Xerafy industrial tag family.
